Big apologies to those who I haven't been in touch with for a while...I should explain what I am doing here in Tutova, Romania. Ever since I started working as an OT, I have always been interested in working abroad doing some kind of work with children. I have been interested in Global Volunteers because they offered a variety of programs all over the world and specifically have programs for children with special needs. Romania is their most popular program because of the large number of kids in their clinic. The clinic relies heavily on volunteers year around to provide love and support to the children by feeding them, playing with them, and holding them. Without the volunteers, many of them would be staying in their cribs for most of the time. The program fee goes to paying for food for the children and all of their everyday necessities, in addition to our hotel, meals, etc.
Selfishly, every year I would go on a fun vacation and always pushed this type of volunteer/service vaca for the next year. This year, however, Global Volunteers offered me a scholarship, paying for half of my service fee and so I finally was able to fulfill one of my longtime goals and here I am.
