Too many babies, too many doggies to take home:)

Today was my first full day at the clinic.  There are 20 kids in clinic, divided into a non-mobile group and mobile group.  I asked to be a part of the non-mobile group because they seemed to have more needs that I felt my skills could be utilized for.  We started out immediately feeding the kids because before we could even take our shoes off, we could hear all the babies crying, either to be fed or to be picked up.  I think the age ranges in my group varied from four months to two years, but it was so hard to tell since some of them were so tiny.  Seriously, I don't know how the staff do it.  I felt like I was working all day like I do at the hospital-feeding, positioning, doing ROM, tummy time, etc, except there were no mommies to give them back to at the end of the hour.  And, the babies didn't nap the entire time we were there because their nap time was our lunch time.  I think the most challenging time was having two babies who were fussy and with lots of extensor tone in my arms (oh, and one would spit up constantly) while trying to console a little girl with hydrocephalus who was lying in her bed, and then having my hand taken by a girl with autism who would scream and bite herself if you didn't take her and place her in the crib of her choice!  All said and done, it was a busy but rewarding and beautiful day.  Oh, and a quick little update on my doggy friend who was hit by the car-he's running around now, yes, back into the streets sometimes to my horror, but the amazing thing is that his left eye is open!!

We heard that there might be a possiblity that this clinic may be closing per government orders...it is so unfortunate but we'll be positive and hope for the best.  I just wanted to take all the babies home and figured if I'm taking that on, I might as well take all the dogs home too.  I know, I know, wishful thinking...

  1. Hi Yoko, So glad you made it safe and sound.......... I think it is great what you are doing. In the back of my mind I have always wanted to do something like this with my Nursing skills - but always felts a bit selfish and wondered about the accomodations I might have whilst doing this. You just might inspire me to push forward and seek out an opportunity that I might enjoy.
Stay safe my friend, and I will look forward to you blog notes or posts on facebook. Hugs, Kristen
